Omari Hardwick
Biography
Omari Hardwick is an American actor who first drew attention with the 2004 television film Sucker Free City after setting football aside. Born in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in Decatur, he played sports and wrote poetry before minoring in theater at Furman University. He went on to appear in Miracle at St. Anna (2008), Kick-Ass (2010), For Colored Girls (2010) and Sorry to Bother You (2018), and he was a series regular on Saved and played Andre on Being Mary Jane. His best reviews came for I Will Follow (2010), and he took the lead role of James St. Patrick, known as Ghost, on the Starz drama Power, which ran six seasons. He also appeared in Army of the Dead (2021) as Vanderohe, founded the production company Bravelife Films, and earned Grammy nominations for his spoken word poetry albums.

Getting ready for a role
In 2006, Hardwick was a series regular on the TV show Saved, and the part called for two years of training as a fireman and a paramedic.
A change of course
Before acting work came, Hardwick declared for the NFL Draft hoping to join the San Diego Chargers, was not selected, and returned to acting.

From 2003 to 2004, Hardwick took part in the National Poetry Slam competition, where he finished in the top 5 overall.
Behind the camera
Hardwick helped start the "Plan B Inc. Theater Group" in 2010 and was a co-founder of "Actor's Lounge" at the Los Angeles Greenway Theater. He also started the production company "Bravelife Films."
First role
In 2002, Hardwick appeared as an extra in the music video for "Say Yes" by Floetry, a role he took on during his early years as an actor.
