Plot summary
Mike Tyson grows up in Brooklyn as a troubled youth and hopes to box professionally. Cus D'Amato, a manager and trainer, begins turning him into an undefeated fighter. Tyson is a difficult pupil who often slacks off in training. D'Amato brings in the boxing managers Jimmy Jacobs and Bill Cayton and the trainer Kevin Rooney to help put Tyson's life back together. D'Amato tells Tyson that keeping the right people close can keep him out of trouble. Tyson rises quickly through the ranks.
