Plot summary
Les, a film student from California, comes back to Brooklyn to make a documentary about the neighborhood where he grew up. The first person he meets is Joe Head, and while they talk, word arrives that a local man known as One-eye Jimmy has gone missing. Les changes course and films the search instead, collecting accounts from one neighborhood character after another. Jimmy's brother Ed shows little interest in finding him. Disco Bean, who dances without stopping in an abandoned building, explains how Jimmy lost his eye. Colonel Ron, a homeless Vietnam veteran, fishes in the Gowanus Canal. Lefty and Junior keep fighting because Junior takes Lefty's car. Jimmy's mother Holly hires Ellen, an amateur sketch artist, to draw a portrait for a missing person flyer.
