Plot summary
Charlie Heller works in the CIA's Decryption and Analysis division and has befriended a field agent known as The Bear and an anonymous source called Inquiline. His wife Sarah travels to London on business. When she is killed in a terrorist attack, his boss, Special Activities Center director Alex Moore, and Moore's deputy Caleb Horowitz tell him the agency is working to bring down the whole network behind the men involved. Charlie goes over the attack himself and names four suspects, then confronts Moore with classified orders and threatens to leak them unless he gets the training and resources to hunt the men himself.

- A new adaptation of Robert Littell's novel was first announced in November 2006, with Hugh Jackman attached to star and Evan Katz writing the screenplay.
- Filming on the film was suspended in July 2023 because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, and did not resume until December 2023.
- Takehiro Hira was cast in the film as well, but his role was cut from the final version, so he does not appear in the released film.
