Biography
Brad Pitt is an American actor and producer who first gained notice in Thelma & Louise (1991), playing a cowboy hitchhiker, after early television and film work in the late 1980s. Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and raised in Springfield, Missouri, he took leading roles in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, Fight Club (1999) and Snatch (2000). The Ocean's trilogy, Troy (2004) and Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) confirmed his leading man status, and later hits include Inglourious Basterds (2009) and World War Z (2013). He earned Academy Award nominations for 12 Monkeys (1995), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and Moneyball (2011), winning Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019). He also produced 12 Years a Slave (2013), which won Best Picture. His other films include Babel, Burn After Reading, The Tree of Life, Fury, The Big Short and Babylon.

Pitt prepared for Fight Club with boxing, taekwondo and grappling lessons, and agreed to have pieces of his front teeth removed for the look of Tyler Durden, with the teeth restored once filming ended.

While he was trying to make a name for himself in Los Angeles, Pitt studied with the acting coach Roy London.
Behind the award
Pitt won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 64th Venice International Film Festival for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but collected the award a year later at the 2008 festival.

Pitt helped start the production company Plan B Entertainment in 2001. As a producer, he earned a Best Picture Academy Award for 12 Years a Slave and nominations for Moneyball and The Big Short.
