Kevin Tighe
Biography
Kevin Tighe is an American actor whose screen and stage career began in the late 1960s. He was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Pasadena, where he started acting young and auditioned at the Pasadena Playhouse. His first film appearance came in 1967 with a small part in The Graduate, and after studio contracts with Paramount and Universal he landed the role that made him well known: firefighter-paramedic Roy DeSoto on NBC's Emergency!, which ran six seasons. He also directed four episodes of that series and wrote one. Later film work included Matewan (1987), the club owner Frank Tilghman in Road House (1989), and City of Hope (1991). He received a Genie Award in 1994 for his supporting role in I Love a Man in Uniform. He went on to appear on stage in Other Desert Cities and Curse of the Starving Class, and in 2025 he appeared briefly in Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another.

Getting ready for a role
Tighe and other actors on the show attended paramedic classes and went on "ride-alongs" with the LA County Fire Department so he could portray his character better.
Own stunts
In the show's early years, Tighe and Mantooth performed many stunts themselves. Mantooth said that when their faces were visible, they did the stunts, and when not, a stunt double did.
A role that slipped away
Tighe replaced Robin Williams in the title role of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo for the New York and Los Angeles productions, winning a 2010 Garland Award for best Performance in a Play.
Early training
Tighe kept his acting skills sharp by studying again in New York City with Robert Lewis and Stella Adler, and he also taught drama at USC during the 80s.
First role
Tighe made his Broadway debut in Open Admissions at the Music Box Theatre, a show that closed after two weeks.
