Biography
Jeffrey Donovan is an American actor who grew up in Amesbury, Massachusetts and studied drama at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and New York University. He took his first leading television role in Touching Evil in 2004, then starred from 2007 to 2013 as spy Michael Westen in Burn Notice, which drew four Primetime Emmy Award nominations; he also directed an episode of the show and the prequel film Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe (2011). His films include Hitch (2005), Changeling (2008), Shot Caller (2017) and Sicario (2015). He played Robert F. Kennedy in J. Edgar (2011) and John F. Kennedy in LBJ (2017), had a recurring role on Fargo in 2015, starred in Shut Eye, and played a detective on Law & Order from 2022 to 2023.

Behind the camera
Donovan's first directing job was the Burn Notice episode "Made Man," broadcast on June 17, 2010. He went on to direct Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, a prequel film that USA Network aired on April 17, 2011.
Early training
A teacher at Amesbury High School took Donovan under her wing, assisting him in launching a drama club and locating a private scholarship so he could attend a summer program, which set him on the path to acting.
A change of course
While attending college, Jeffrey Donovan worked as a commercial bus driver for UMass Transit Service, operating passenger buses as part of the PVTA.
First role
Donovan took his first leading part in 2004, starring with Vera Farmiga in the USA Network version of the British show Touching Evil.
