Art Baker
Biography
Art Baker was an American actor who worked in radio, film, and television. Born in New York City in 1898, he had first aimed at a singing career and served in the Army during World War I, where his hair turned white early and became his trademark. Radio was his entry point: he announced on Los Angeles stations, narrated Tapestries of Life, created Art Baker's Notebook, hosted People Are Funny, and worked as announcer for Bob Hope's Pepsodent Show. He appeared in more than 40 films, usually as business executives, doctors, or senators, narrating Victory Through Air Power (1943) and playing Detective Lt. Cooley in Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945). He also appeared in The Farmer's Daughter (1947) and Cover Up (1949). He created the television series You Asked for It, which ran until 1959, and in 1960 was given a Walk of Fame star honoring his radio and television work. He died in 1966.
