Jane Greer
Biography
Jane Greer was an American film and television actress who began her career as a big-band singer and model. Raised in Washington, D.C., she was brought to Hollywood by Howard Hughes and lent to RKO, where she made Dick Tracy (1945), Out of the Past (1947), They Won't Believe Me (1947), and The Big Steal (1949). Her portrayal of the scheming Kathie Moffat in Out of the Past made her famous as a femme fatale, and she played the mother of that character in Against All Odds (1984). Later films included The Prisoner of Zenda (1952), Run for the Sun (1956), and Man of a Thousand Faces (1957). On television she guest-starred in Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Bonanza, Columbo, and Murder, She Wrote, and held recurring parts on Falcon Crest and Twin Peaks until she retired in 1996. The Guardian later counted her among the finest actors who were never nominated for an Oscar.

A change of course
Greer started out in show business singing with big bands. In Washington, D.C., she performed with Enric Madriguera's orchestra and "sang phonetically in Spanish" with the group.
A change of course
In 1952, Greer got out of her contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. She said the producers there wanted Lana or Ava for a good role, so another actress had no shot at becoming an important star.
