Plot summary

Ayjax Development Corporation has assembled the Atomic Hearing Aid, a plutonium-powered device that can eavesdrop on anyone without limit. The company offers it to the U.S. government, which declines it and orders the company to destroy it, since the power supply is unstable. The president of Ayjax refuses to scrap the device, and the masked villain Rat Fink, Batwoman's archenemy, keeps pressing the company to hand it over. The vice president, Jim Flanagan, recruits Batwoman to protect the device. Batwoman works with a squad of young female agents, the Batgirls, who aid her as she fights evil and pursues justice.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Wild World of Batwoman (1966)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Because of its similar title, the production company Associated Distributors Productions was promptly sued by DC Comics for copyright infringement. Jerry Warren won the case, and later re-released the film under the title She Was a Hippy Vampire.
  • The Wild World of Batwoman stands as the first English-language motion picture to feature a female superhero, and, made-for-television films aside, the last of its kind until Supergirl came out some 18 years later.
  • Katherine Victor was reluctant to work with director Jerry Warren again after Teenage Zombies and Curse of the Stone Hand, so he won her over for the lead by promising large production values, color photography and her own Bat Boat. None of it ever happened.
  • Katherine Victor said that on set, any actor who rubbed Jerry Warren the wrong way had lines cut or handed to someone else. She said the brunette kidnapped at the start, meant to be the lead girl, lost all her lines to the girl in the leopard tights.
  • For the film's monsters, Jerry Warren used footage from the Universal Pictures film The Mole People, and other scenes were lifted from different films, one apparently the 1959 Swedish film No Time to Kill, spotted by a background sign reading "Livsmedel", Swedish for grocery stores.
