Warner Anderson

Biography

Warner Anderson was an American actor who began in childhood pictures before finding his greatest fame in television. He was born in Brooklyn to a theatrical family. A small film part came his way in 1915, and he appeared in Sunbeam in 1917; his adult screen debut followed in This Is the Army in 1943. Over the years he took supporting roles in movies such as Destination Tokyo (1943), The Caine Mutiny (1954), and Blackboard Jungle (1955). His stage credits included Broadway turns in Maytime, Medea, Within Four Walls, and Remains to Be Seen. Radio work in the 1940s included announcing duties on The Bell Telephone Hour. On television he starred as Lt. Ben Guthrie in The Lineup from 1954 to 1960, then reprised that part for the 1958 movie The Lineup. In Peyton Place he portrayed publisher Matthew Swain and served as the show's narrator.
