Plot summary

Will Sabre has ridden with outlaws and now wants to quit that life, so he heads into new territory. Dunsten, the leader of the gang, is angered by the decision and rides after him. On the trail Sabre comes upon Robbie, a ten-year-old burying the father he lost in a covered-wagon attack, and Dunsten's men arrive and exchange shots with him. Sabre brings the boy along to Durango, where he goes by Dan Tomlinson and takes a job at a bank. There he meets Judy Ollivant again, a rancher and a former sweetheart, and she accepts his word that he has given up outlawry. Sheriff Howard, though, is wary of the stranger and wires away for word of Will Sabre, though a Texas Rangers captain speaks for Dan.
