Jimmy Conlin

Biography

Jimmy Conlin was an American character actor whose career spanned more than three decades and close to 150 films. Born in Camden, New Jersey, he began in vaudeville, playing the Keith-Albee-Orpheum circuits and making two Vitaphone shorts before settling into character work. Starting in 1933 he worked steadily, often in small, uncredited bits, and became recognizable for his short stature, horn-rimmed glasses and shaggy blond bangs. In the 1940s he joined Preston Sturges's unofficial stock company, appearing in nine of the director's films, and he gave one of his best performances as Wormy in The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1946). His films included Second Chorus (1941), Dick Tracy's Dilemma (1947), Anatomy of a Murder (1959) and The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959), the last two released in his final year on screen. He also took a recurring part as a bartender on Duffy's Tavern, a television series.
