Tom Kennedy
Biography
Tom Kennedy was an American actor whose Hollywood comedy career stretched from the silent era to the mid-1960s. Born in New York City in 1885, he appeared in more than 320 films and television series, many without screen credit. He worked for producers Mack Sennett and Hal Roach, supporting lead comedians like the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, and the Three Stooges, and took dramatic supporting parts. Kennedy made his film debut in a short comedy western titled The Lamb and kept working until his death in 1965, when the western The Bounty Killer came out. At Columbia, producer Jules White teamed him with Monte Collins for a starring short series from 1935 to 1938, with Kennedy as a clumsy, good-natured hulk, and later paired him with Shemp Howard and Andy Clyde. He played Gahagan, a policeman who recited poetry, in nine Warner Bros. Torchy Blane features, and appeared on series including Perry Mason, Maverick, My Favorite Martian, and Gunsmoke.
