Plot summary
Jerry Van Dyke, a debutante, meets Barney, an Army corporal, at a USO dance, and the two decide to marry. Jerry's family objects to the match, and the couple's application for a marriage license fails: Jerry is four days short of the required age. Barney is posted to a camp in Kentucky, and Jerry travels after him with Louise, whose husband Mike is in Barney's unit. At a bus station Jerry is taken under the wing of Mrs. Shannahan, who is escorting her six children to their father, Sergeant Shannahan. In Kentucky, Barney greets Jerry, but his outfit is due to leave on maneuvers in five minutes.
