Plot summary
Trudy Kockenlocker is the town constable's daughter. Against her father's orders she goes to a farewell party for soldiers, where a chandelier strikes her head as she dances. The next morning she is in a daze and recalls the night. She married a soldier that night but cannot remember his name, only that it had a z in it. She believes they used fake names, she has no marriage license, and she cannot recall his face. She also learns that she became pregnant. Norval Jones, a local man who has loved her for years, steps in to help.

- Hays Office censors objected so strongly to the film's unwed pregnant heroine that Preston Sturges began shooting with only 10 approved script pages.
- Preston Sturges shot sequences up to fifty times on The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, using film so liberally that he inflated the production budget against Paramount's wishes.
- Preston Sturges pitched the film intending Betty Hutton and Harry Carey to play Trudy and Norval; Hutton was cast as Trudy, but Eddie Bracken played Norval instead of Carey.
- In February 1943 the United States War Department asked the filmmakers to make the soldiers' departure scene show "normal, thoroughly fit American soldiers who have had an evening of clean fun."
- Preston Sturges wrote a sermon for the pastor expressing his views on girls who "confuse patriotism with promiscuity," but the studio cut the scene because the pastor was too comic.
