Plot summary
Torchy Blane is a newspaper reporter whose articles accuse Mayor John Saunders of collusion with Dr. Jerry Dolan, a local crime boss, and describe Dolan's illegal activities. Much of what she prints comes from a listening device she has placed in the mayor's office. Her boyfriend, detective Steve McBride, thinks the articles are putting her at risk. Dolan responds by asking his allies to pull their advertising from the paper and to lean on her editor, Maxie, to stop running the series. Torchy wants to show that everything she has written is accurate and has no intention of backing down.
