Biography

Gerard Butler is a Scottish actor and film producer who studied law before turning to acting in the mid-1990s, starting with small parts in Mrs Brown (1997) and Tale of the Mummy (1998). He played Count Dracula in Dracula 2000 and Attila the Hun in the miniseries Attila, then appeared in Reign of Fire (2002), Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003), Timeline (2003) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004). His portrayal of King Leonidas in 300 (2007) brought wider recognition, and he later voiced Stoick the Vast in the How to Train Your Dragon films (2010, 2014, 2019). He played Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the Has Fallen series, beginning with Olympus Has Fallen (2013), and took action roles in Geostorm (2017), Den of Thieves (2018), Greenland (2020), Copshop (2021), Last Seen Alive (2022), Plane (2023) and Kandahar (2023).
