- Scott Derrickson, enlisted with his writing partner Paul Harris Boardman to rewrite the script two weeks before production, said Weinstein thought the script was terrible but was moving ahead regardless; asked why he was making the movie, Weinstein replied that it was because it is called Dracula 2000.
- While he was finalizing post-production on Scream 3, editor Patrick Lussier was approached by Bob Weinstein about a modernized take on Dracula entitled Dracula 2000. When Lussier asked what the film was about, Weinstein responded: I don’t know.
- Christopher Plummer, Jonny Lee Miller, Omar Epps, Jeri Ryan and the rest arrived on set in Toronto, where Lussier had already blocked several scenes using assistants, but no actor had yet been cast in the title role: Gerard Butler got the part only two days before filming commenced.
- The final cut of the film was expected to be delivered on December 12, 2000, a mere ten days before its theatrical release. Craven, comparing the rush to his time on Scream 2, said there was no benefit whatsoever to making movies so fast, and that it was terribly difficult and completely unnecessary.
