Plot summary
In 1948 an archaeological dig in Egypt breaks the seal of a tomb that hieroglyphics warn against, and the party vanishes, leaving only a log book and a warning about Talos. Fifty years later the log book reaches Richard Turkel's granddaughter Samantha Turkel, who retraces his steps, recovers a sacred amulet and unleashes the tomb's power again. The sarcophagus goes to London for an exhibition and is broken open, and after that a series of killings begins, each victim missing a different organ. Detective Riley takes the case, and Samantha explains that Talos was a prince whose followers were told to remove his body parts and who believed he would be resurrected to reclaim them and gain immortality.

- The film was devised by Russell Mulcahy and his close friend Keith Williams as therapy to get over a skiing accident the director suffered during Christmas 1995, as Williams knew of Mulcahy's affinity for the Hammer Mummy film.
- Shelley Duvall agreed to join the film as she was a fan of horror and had wanted to work with Mulcahy since the mid-1980s, when she wanted him to direct Mother Goose Rock 'n' Rhyme until clashing schedules forced him to pass on that project.
