Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Hunter Killer (2018)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Ukraine's Ministry of Culture refused the film an exhibition license days before its 25 October premiere, under a 2012 law against films promoting an aggressor state; an official said its "positive image of the Russian president and admiral of the Russian army" made screening it illegal.
  • Russia never saw it either. The culture ministry withheld a license for the planned 1 November opening, saying the copy the distributor submitted was of poor quality and the replacement arrived too late to be reviewed.
  • The project sat unmade for years: Phillip Noyce walked away shortly before shooting, saying it was too close to films he had already directed, then Antoine Fuqua and Gerard Butler left for Olympus Has Fallen and McG and Steven Quale passed before Butler came back.
  • The interior of the Virginia-class submarine was built at Ealing Studios from blueprints approved by the U.S. Navy, with the compartments widened slightly so the camera could move, and the whole set mounted on a gimbal to roll with the sea.
  • The submarine's exterior was floated in Pinewood Studios' 806,000-gallon outdoor water tank, underwater shots used a separate tank at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, and the Russian base interiors were built at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia.
  • The wardrobe department dressed the film's Navy SEALs in commercially available uniforms in A-TACS FG camouflage, a pattern the real U.S. Navy does not use.
