Plot summary
David, Buddy's owner, sends the golden retriever into space in a capsule in 1969. The capsule malfunctions and shocks Buddy, altering his DNA and giving him superpowers, and he drifts out of orbit. Fifty years on, the capsule reenters the atmosphere and Buddy wakes in a dumpster in the town of Glenfield. The townspeople react to a talking dog with fear, and his capsule is gone. He follows a police truck to the station, where an officer takes a caged dog named Victor inside. In a nearby alley Buddy meets Felix, a tuxedo cat who calls himself TurboCat and lassoes him before driving him to a gadget-filled hideout in the Glenfield Museum, where the robot butler Sinclair waits. TurboCat tells him humans in Glenfield hate animals and that Officer Peck sends strays to the pound.
