Plot summary
Richie Furst paid for his Princeton master's degree by steering students to online gambling sites for a cut, until the dean threatens to expel him for it. He risks his savings at the poker table instead and loses everything to a player he can prove was cheating, using statistics. Richie travels to Costa Rica to confront Ivan Block, whose company runs the site and the largest online gambling operation around. Shown the proof, Block fires the coders who had altered the software and offers Richie a job worth millions a year. Richie accepts the offer and moves to Costa Rica, where he begins a relationship with Rebecca Shafran, Ivan's former lover. FBI Agent Shavers, who cannot act legally in Costa Rica, threatens to ruin Richie's life unless he helps bring Ivan down.
