Plot summary
A house made of candy stands in the forest where Hansel and Gretel have been left by their father. The witch inside captures them, sets Gretel to work at the oven and forces Hansel to keep eating. The two outsmart her and burn her there. Years later they are famous witch hunters, and Hansel, who came out of the candy house with a magic-induced diabetes, injects insulin every few hours. In Augsburg, Mayor Engleman hires them to find the town's missing children, while Sheriff Berringer, who wants the mayor disgraced, hires trackers of his own. The siblings arrive in time to stop the sheriff burning Mina, a young woman accused of witchcraft.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- While filming a scene in which Gretel is thrown through a wall and falls several meters, a stunt double for Gemma Arterton was dangerously injured when a nail got lodged in her skull close to the brain; Arterton said she had wanted to do the stunt herself, but Wirkola would not let her.
- Director Tommy Wirkola gave the adult Hansel diabetes as an extra character flaw, on top of the psychological scars he shares with his sister; in the original idea for the short film, Gretel had suffered from an eating disorder.
- The role of adult Gretel was originally planned for Noomi Rapace, who dropped out of consideration before early January 2011, and Diane Kruger and Eva Green were both reported to be in talks for the part.
- Hans Zimmer worked on the film as an executive music producer, while the score itself was created by Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson, who had co-written Zimmer's score for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
- Jeremy Renner, who plays the adult Hansel, did practically all of his stunt scenes himself rather than leaving them to a double.
- Gemma Arterton herself was hurt during the shoot as well, spraining her ankle while running through the forest for the film.
