Charles Boyer
Biography
Born in Figeac, France, Charles Boyer was a French-American actor whose film work spanned more than eighty titles from 1920 to 1976. After studying drama, he started on the stage and found success in American movies during the 1930s. He became known for romantic dramas and the mystery-thriller Gaslight (1944), with notable roles in The Garden of Allah (1936), Love Affair (1939), and Algiers (1938). He received four Oscar nominations for Best Actor, for Conquest (1937), Algiers, Gaslight, and Fanny (1961). Later screen work included How to Steal a Million (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967), and The Madwoman of Chaillot (1969). On television he was a producer and star of Four Star Playhouse, and he won a special Tony for Don Juan in Hell on Broadway. He also recorded the album Where Does Love Go in 1966.
