Scotty Beckett

Biography

Scotty Beckett was an American actor who began performing as a child. Born in Oakland, California, he got his start at age three, leading to a part in Gallant Lady (1933). In 1934 he joined the Our Gang shorts, playing Spanky McFarland's best friend until 1935, and left for features in 1936. He became known for playing the son of stars or the hero as a boy in films such as The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), Conquest (1937), My Favorite Wife (1940), and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1944). As a teenager he portrayed young Al Jolson in The Jolson Story and Junior on radio's The Life of Riley. Signed by MGM in 1947, he played Oogie Pringle in A Date with Judy (1948). In 1954 he was cast as Winky in the TV series Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, but was fired and made only a few more appearances before leaving show business.
