Mildred Natwick

Biography

Mildred Natwick was an American actress who began performing onstage in Baltimore at 21 and made her Broadway debut in 1932 in Carry Nation. She worked steadily in the theater through the 1930s and later won a Primetime Emmy Award for The Snoop Sisters, along with an Academy Award nomination for Barefoot in the Park (1967) and two Tony nominations. She became known for small, memorable parts in John Ford films such as 3 Godfathers (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and The Quiet Man (1952), and played Miss Ivy Gravely in Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble with Harry (1955). Her other films included The Long Voyage Home (1940), The Enchanted Cottage (1945), The Court Jester (1955), Tammy and the Bachelor (1957) and, at 83, Dangerous Liaisons (1988). She also appeared often on television.
