Plot summary
Tessa Sanger lives in a Swiss chalet with her father, the musical mentor Albert Sanger, and her sisters Kate, Toni and Paula. The composer Lewis Dodd's latest symphony has flopped, and he arrives to visit them. All four daughters adore him, and Tessa believes that he will someday recognize the depth of her affection. Dodd brings a new symphonic poem called Tomorrow, written for the Sanger girls to play, and Albert prefers it to Dodd's modernist symphony. When Albert dies while orchestrating the piece, Dodd stays with the family and vows to finish it himself. There he renews an acquaintance with the sophisticated Florence Creighton.
