Leslie Caron
Biography
Leslie Caron is a French and American actress and dancer who trained as a ballerina and became one of the last surviving stars of Hollywood's Golden Age. Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, she was dancing with Roland Petit's company when Gene Kelly discovered her and cast her opposite him in her film debut, An American in Paris (1951), which led to a seven-year MGM contract. Lili (1953) brought her a BAFTA Award as well as Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, and she went on to lead The Glass Slipper (1955), Daddy Long Legs (1955), Gigi (1958) and Fanny (1961). The L-Shaped Room (1962) won her a Golden Globe, a second BAFTA and a second Oscar nomination. Her later films include Father Goose (1964), Valentino (1977), Damage (1992), Funny Bones (1995), Chocolat (2000) and Le Divorce (2003), and in 2007 she won a Primetime Emmy for a guest role on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
