Plot summary

Nardo Denning, a thief carrying stolen money, arrives at a New Mexico ranch where Meg Cameron lives with her husband Ben, a struggling rancher. Meg has not settled into ranch life, and her marriage to Ben began while she was on parole from a ten-year prison sentence. Before Denning turns up, she and Ben argue, and she prepares to leave him. Denning abandoned Meg after her arrest; now he needs a guide to take him over the border into Mexico, and he wants Ben to do it. Ben refuses. Denning and Meg drive off together toward town, leaving Ben behind with a photograph of Denning.
