Harry Harvey
Biography
Harry Harvey was an American actor of theater, film and television. A native of Indian Territory, later Oklahoma, he performed in minstrel shows, vaudeville and on Broadway before beginning motion pictures in 1932. He became a freelance character player, working for multiple studios across the 1930s and 1940s, though he was exclusive to RKO from late 1945 to mid-1948. His parts were often small, such as reporters, clerks, waiters and stewards, but westerns gave him larger roles and two-reel comedies gave him featured ones. Starting with Leon Errol in 1939, he became the comedian's affable second lead within a few years, the friend who tried to pull the trouble-prone star out of his latest scrape. He stayed in RKO films until 1952. On television he played Sheriff Tom Blodgett in The Roy Rogers Show from 1951 to 1957 and Mayor George Dixon in Man Without a Gun from 1957 to 1959. His last appearance was in Adam-12 in 1974.
