Plot summary
Richard Trevelyan, a wealthy Texas rancher, is condemned for the murder of his wife, Loraine, and counseled by a priest before his execution. A reprieve gives him a new trial, which ends without a verdict and frees him. Shelley Carnes, a New York actress sent to a Texas dude ranch to recover her health, meets him by chance when a storm strands her on the road. The ranch, run by Liza McStringer and her younger brother String, is closed on her arrival, the notice having missed her while she toured. Liza tells Shelley that she was the juror who held out for Trevelyan's freedom, and that the neighbors have shunned her since. The Nolans, who lend Shelley a car on her way, introduce her to Harvey Turner, a neighbor who makes advances at once.
