Plot summary
Dr. Leon Kravaal works out a possible cure for cancer that freezes the patient. When an experiment goes wrong and officials believe he has killed a man, Kravaal seals the men who come for him, and himself, in frozen chambers before he disappears. Ten years later, Dr. Tim Mason, a medical researcher working on frozen therapy, and his nurse, Judith Blair, reach Kravaal's deserted home. A hidden passage in the basement leads them to an ice chamber where Kravaal lies frozen and still alive after ten years. The two revive him and hope he can complete the cure he started.

- The Man with Nine Lives and The Man They Could Not Hang drew in part on the real-life saga of Dr. Robert Cornish, a University of California professor who in 1934 said he had restored life to a dog named Lazarus, which he had put to death. The resulting publicity, including a Time magazine article, led to Cornish being booted off campus.
