Plot summary
D.J. Mulrooney is traveling to Seattle to sell 50,000 acres of timberland, with his grandchildren Elizabeth and Rodney. They detour through a redwood grove he has endowed and meet two gnomes, Jasper and the 943-year-old Knobby. Knobby is becoming semi-transparent and doubts that other gnomes survive, so he wants Jasper to find a bride while there is still time. Although Knobby resents humans for harming forests, the gnomes join the family to search for others of their kind.
