NetflixMovies.com Checked on
Between 2 October and 10 October, Netflix in the United States takes on a broad spread of films, and most of them arrive on a single day in the middle of that stretch. Thrillers and horror carry the heaviest weight in the rush, though the run is not all tension. Romance and comedy turn up in the mix, and a documentary about Lorne Michaels sits beside them. The other days are quieter, with arrivals coming a few at a time. Older films and recent ones share the space, so a quiet drama can sit a short distance from outright fright.
Arrivals run newest first, and where several landed on the same day the better rated of them leads. To belong here, a film had to reach Netflix in the United States between those two dates.
Ryan Coogler directs Sinners, with Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and Miles Caton. It sets twin brothers down in 1932 Clarksdale, Mississippi, where they open a juke joint in an abandoned sawmill and a guitarist cousin joins them. Two men who begin as assistants to an older magician harden into bitter rivals in The Prestige, Christopher Nolan's film with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine. The Gift comes from Joel Edgerton, who directs and stars alongside Rebecca Hall and Jason Bateman, as a couple settling into Los Angeles while a schoolmate of his keeps turning up at their door with presents. Ghostbusters was among the films that left Netflix over the same days.
