Plot summary
Manny and Ellie are raising their teenage daughter Peaches, and Manny's overprotective watch over her has set the two of them arguing. Peaches has been spending time with a group of mammoths Manny does not approve of. Sid's family arrives only long enough to leave his elderly Granny behind with him. Then Scrat's pursuit of an acorn splits the continent apart and sends Manny out to sea on a drifting iceberg with Sid, Diego and Granny, cut off from Ellie, Peaches, Crash and Eddie. As the land shifts beneath them, Ellie, Peaches and the others make for a land bridge, and Manny vows to find his way back to them.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film gained a resurgence when it became a major plot point in the FX on Hulu series Alien: Earth, whose protagonists Joe Hermit (Alex Lawther) and Wendy, formerly Marcy Hermit (Sydney Chandler), fondly remember watching it and quote the exchange between Captain Gutt and Sid.
- One of the biggest challenges in Blue Sky's animation pipeline was the CG water for the ocean and the clouds. The water effects were achieved with a combination of in-house and off-the-shelf software: Houdini generated data for simulations, and RealFlow handled some splash effects.
- Outside North America the film is the twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time, and it set an all-time record among animated films until Disney's Frozen surpassed it.
