Plot summary
FBI agent Castillo closes out a case against a crew of bank robbers in Miami. Jon Baker, a former motocross racer, joins the California Highway Patrol Academy, and Sergeant Gail Hernandez passes him on probation even though his aptitude scores are low, because he handles a motorcycle better than most cadets. Baker's reason for signing up is to hold on to his marriage to Karen. On a California highway, bikers attack an armored van, and the patrol asks the FBI for help, suspecting that a corrupt group inside its own ranks is involved. Castillo takes the name Francis Llewellyn Poncherello, known as Ponch, and is assigned to ride with Baker.
