Plot summary
In 1932, after seven years in Chicago, the identical twins Elijah "Smoke" and Elias "Stack" Moore come home to Clarksdale, Mississippi. Money taken from criminal syndicates buys an abandoned sawmill where they plan a juke joint. Their cousin Sammie sings and plays guitar, joining them against the warnings of his father, the pastor Jedidiah. The twins hire the musician Delta Slim, the shopkeepers Grace and Bo Chow, the field worker Cornbread, and Smoke's estranged wife Annie as cook. Stack meets Mary, a former girlfriend. Elsewhere, the vampire Remmick hides from Choctaw vampire hunters.

- Machine Gun Kelly was offered the chance to audition for the role that went to Peter Dreimanis in Sinners but declined because he was not comfortable saying a racial slur; Halsey also auditioned for the part that went to Hailee Steinfeld.
- Some of the costumes in Sinners were originally designed by Ruth E. Carter for the stalled Marvel film Blade; when that production stalled, Ryan Coogler approached her, and Marvel Studios let her buy the costumes back for his film.
- Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw shot Sinners on 65 mm film using IMAX 15-perf and Ultra Panavision 70 cameras, making her the first female director of photography to shoot a movie on large-format IMAX film.
- Kodak created a 65 mm version of its Ektachrome 100D 5294 film stock specifically for Sinners, and it was used for a flashback sequence.
- Production designer Hannah Beachler built the film's church with crossed beams that made the "Wakanda Forever" gesture, an homage to the late Chadwick Boseman, star of Black Panther.
- Sinners drew a record 16 nominations at the 98th Academy Awards, the most of any film in history, and won four, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler.
- Ludwig Göransson performed his Sinners score on a 1932 Dobro Cyclops resonator guitar, the same instrument the character Sammie carries throughout the film.
