Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Ring (2002)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The Ring started shooting without a finished screenplay: Ehren Kruger had written three drafts before Scott Frank was brought in for an uncredited rewrite.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Connelly and Kate Beckinsale were all offered the lead role, but director Gore Verbinski said he did not want to cast big stars because he wanted audiences to feel they had discovered the film.
  • Chris Cooper shot two scenes as a murderer that were meant to open and close the film, and the whole part was cut before release.
  • Cinematographer Bojan Bazelli fixed the film's gray blue-green look in the camera itself, using an 81EF and a green filter rather than grading it digitally afterwards, committing to the style before a frame was processed.
  • The film's success opened the gate for a run of American remakes of Asian horror, among them The Grudge in 2004, Dark Water in 2005, Pulse in 2006, and The Eye, Shutter and Mirrors in 2008.
