Plot summary
Nigel, the Earl of Marshwood, proposed to the Hollywood actress Miranda Frayle after two months and she accepted. In 1952 England, the engagement has stirred unrest in the upper class Marshwood household: his family and society friends fear he is marrying below his class, while others there are thrilled at the prospect of a film star joining the family. Miranda's past romance with the film star Don Lucas, an on and off-screen affair, fills the Hollywood gossip magazines. Nigel brings her to the country estate to meet his mother, Felicity, Lady Marshwood.
