Plot summary
Harriet Fox, called Harry, and Peter Fox are con artists in London. A nun paid Harriet for her part in a cocaine deal, and she gambled away a share of that money at poker while Peter, who drinks heavily and uses cocaine, spent more of it. The gangster Irina is owed what they cannot pay. They leave England for Los Angeles and there approach Sidney, a priest who takes on dirty jobs for cash. Sidney offers them $40,000 to transport a shipment of opium. Peter also runs into Jackie, his ex-wife, who is married to Gabriel, a film director, and Harry fixes on Jackie's £5 million blue-stone ring.
