Plot summary
Jeremiah Harper, a human rights lawyer in London, hires Kim, an American computer technician and hacker, to get back at a property development firm that cheated islanders in Golanda, in southwestern Asia, out of their land. His idea is for Kim to drain the firm's accounts so that most of the money can be returned to the islanders there. For the job she must get into the private bank Watson Tyler, where the transfers are handled, so Cliff, a planner for the town council, is brought in to pose as her fiancé while they look the premises over, and Kim prepares false identities for them both. Wimbourne, the bank manager, gives them a tour, and they see a portrait of the bank's chairman, Lord Childwell.
