Plot summary
In 1979, after finishing Life of Brian, the members of Monty Python weigh releasing it in America first, where the First Amendment offers cover. American reporters cover a screening that turns into a near riot, where protesters decry the film as blasphemous, and a religious leader's statement blaming it for violence sets John Cleese off on a tangent about copycat crucifixions. Their distributor, Barry, urges a quiet British release. When BBC2's Friday Night, Saturday Morning asks for a debate, the troupe is reluctant, then sends Cleese and Michael Palin, while the program's team lines up Malcolm Muggeridge and the Bishop of Southwark to argue the other side.
