Plot summary
Jimmy Markum, Sean Devine and Dave Boyle are boys in a Charlestown, Boston neighborhood in 1975. Two men who claim to be police officers take Dave away; he is held and raped for four days before he gets free. Twenty-five years on, Jimmy is an ex-convict who runs a convenience store, Sean is a State Police detective, and Dave works a blue-collar job, still haunted by the abduction. Jimmy's daughter Katie, from his first marriage, has been dating Brendan Harris in secret and plans to run away with him to Las Vegas.
