Jason Robards
Biography
Jason Robards was an American actor who became closely associated with the plays of Eugene O'Neill. Born in Chicago in 1922, he trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made his Broadway debut in the 1956 production of Long Day's Journey into Night, for which he won a Theatre World Award. His breakthrough came as Hickey in an off-Broadway revival of The Iceman Cometh, a performance that earned him an Obie. He won a Tony for The Disenchanted (1959) and made his film debut in The Journey (1959). He won consecutive Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor as Ben Bradlee in All the President's Men (1976) and Dashiell Hammett in Julia (1977), and was nominated for playing Howard Hughes in Melvin and Howard (1980). He also won an Emmy for Inherit the Wind (1988) and received the National Medal of Arts in 1997 and the Kennedy Center Honors in 1999.
