Plot summary

Martha Travis performs as a medium on a touring clairvoyant show, passing messages from the dead to their living relatives in front of an audience. Her father, Walter, an alcoholic, travels and works with her. In one town Martha gives Mary Kuron a message from her husband, Tom, who is not yet dead, and she foretells the violent death of a factory employee, a whistleblower preparing to reveal malpractice at the plant. She becomes the target of the killer. Gary Wallace, a skeptical local journalist looking into the death, begins following Martha and Walter. At a later meeting in the town she appears to name other people who will die.
