Plot summary
Huck Finn, a half-literate boy in 1840s Missouri, lives with his foster family. His father, Pap Finn, an abusive drunk, comes back after years away and takes the boy, jealous of money Huck's late mother left him. Pap attacks him before passing out. Fearing for his life, Huck stages his own death and gets away. Jim, enslaved in the same household, escapes when a slave trader offers to buy him. The two meet and head down the Mississippi River toward Cairo, Illinois, where Jim hopes to live free. A wanted poster accuses Jim of murdering Huck, and pursuers hunt the pair over the boy's alleged death.
