Plot summary
Billy Heywood is a twelve-year-old Little League player whose grandfather, Thomas Heywood, owns the Minnesota Twins. When Thomas dies, the will leaves the team to Billy and instructs the executives to assist him until he is old enough to take charge. Billy thinks the manager, George O'Farrell, is too hard on the players, and O'Farrell does not want to work for a kid. After O'Farrell repeatedly insults him, Billy fires him. No other manager will take the job, and with summer break two days away, Billy names himself manager. The Commissioner of Baseball approves after speaking with Billy's mother, Jenny. The players doubt a kid can lead them, and Billy promises to resign if the Twins are still in last place within a few weeks.
