Biography

Terry Crews, born in Flint, Michigan, is an American actor and television host who played professional football before turning to acting. He was a defensive end and linebacker in the NFL and the World League of American Football before retiring in 1997 and moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting. His first acting part came in 1999 on the game show Battle Dome, and his breakout role followed in Friday After Next (2002). Wider recognition arrived as Julius Rock on Everybody Hates Chris from 2005 to 2009. He later played Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine from 2013 to 2021 and hosted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire between 2014 and 2015. His films include White Chicks (2004), Idiocracy (2006), The Expendables series (2010 to 2014), Blended (2014), Deadpool 2 (2018), Sorry to Bother You (2018) and Rumble (2021). He has also voiced characters in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) and began hosting America's Got Talent in 2019.

First role
Terry Crews got his first acting part in 1999 as the character athlete T-Money on the syndicated game show Battle Dome, playing the role for two seasons until its 2001 cancellation.
Big break
Before acting, Crews had worked as on-set security for Ice Cube. He then got his breakout role in the 2002 film Friday After Next, which starred Ice Cube.

Adam Sandler reworked a part in The Longest Yard (2005) so Terry Crews could have it, impressed by Crews's work in White Chicks (2004). Crews had tried out for a different role in that film.
A change of course
Crews's first job in the arts was drawing courtroom sketches in Flint, Michigan. He later worked as a courtroom sketch artist for WJRT.
