Biography

Jay O. Sanders is an American actor and playwright who began on the New York stage, making his off-Broadway debut in a 1976 Shakespeare in the Park production of Henry V. Born in Austin, he attended SUNY Purchase's acting conservatory. He first played Bradley in Sam Shepard's Buried Child in 1978 and reached Broadway in Loose Ends (1979). His film debut came in Starting Over (1979), and he went on to appear in Cross Creek (1983), Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988), Glory (1989), JFK (1991), Angels in the Outfield (1994), Music of the Heart (1999), Tumbleweeds (1999), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), and Green Lantern (2011). On television he has had recurring parts in Roseanne, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, and Sneaky Pete, and he has narrated Wide Angle and Nova as well as Secrets of the Dead. He received a Drama Desk Award for Uncle Vanya.
